Marietta Welfare League announces 2020 Community Grant award recipients

With a RECORD-BREAKING $90,645 being awarded to 38 local organizations, The Marietta Welfare League is excited to present grant funding to area groups who greatly impact Washington County, Ohio.

On Tuesday, January 28, 2020, the members of Welfare League will host the recipients at The Betsey Mills Club.  The reception begins at noon and will feature a light luncheon and the presentation of grant checks to representatives of the groups.

This year’s grant recipients feature a diverse set of programming needs in our area.  Educational activities, health and safety concerns, and addressing hungry citizens are major portions of the 2020 grant funding.  People of all ages and backgrounds will benefit from the funded programs.

Online grant applications were accepted in October 2019 via the League’s website.  At that time 57 requests were made totaling nearly $200,000.  League members were given a month to review each application and met in early December to decide what funds were to go to which programs.

The money awarded in the MWL Community Grant program is raised through the group’s efforts at The League Shop, the coffee and gift shop located on the first floor of Marietta Memorial Hospital.  The Marietta Welfare League has owned and operated this retail space since 1957.

Marietta Welfare League is a non-profit organization based in Marietta, Ohio.  Since 1926 our members have served Washington County, Ohio through various charitable programs including the Shoe Tag Fund (which provides vouchers for children's shoes) and our Community Grant program.  The Marietta Welfare League operates The League Shop at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
